The Regional Government honours Jaume Vaquer, a leading figure in the Balearic Islands’ nautical sector, with the Marcial Sánchez Barcáiztegui Award
The Regional Minister for Business, the Self-Employed and Energy, Alejandro Sáenz de San Pedro, presented the Marcial Sánchez Barcáiztegui Award to Jaume Vaquer this morning in recognition of his work at the helm of AENIB (Association of Nautical Businesses of the Balearic Islands) since 2017.
During his time as president, Vaquer has navigated some challenging periods in the sector’s recent history. In this regard, his role during the pandemic stands out, as his ability to engage with the authorities and his strategic vision proved key to sustaining activity and protecting the business fabric. One of his most notable achievements was the integration and strategic alignment of AENIB with ANEN (National Association of Nautical Companies), a decisive step that has strengthened the representation of the Balearic nautical sector at both regional and national levels. Under his leadership, the Balearic Islands have consolidated their role as one of the leading international destinations for nautical tourism.
The regional minister expressed his gratitude for “Jaume Vaquer’s great dedication to the Balearic Islands’ nautical sector, his strategic vision and his firm commitment to representing the industry, which has enabled the Balearic Islands to establish themselves as an international benchmark in the nautical sector”.
Jaume Vaquer is one of the most prominent figures in the nautical sector in the Balearic Islands, having launched Jaume Vermell Náutica in the early 1990s. Since then, he has built a career marked by his in-depth knowledge of the sector, has actively contributed to the development of nautical services in the Islands and has established a leading company in the nautical field. His career reflects a constant dedication to the sea, a strategic vision and a firm commitment to the sector. This recognition highlights not only a professional career, but a whole life dedicated to the nautical sector.
The Marcial Sánchez Barcáiztegui Award is an annual prize presented by the PIBS to recognise companies, organisations or individuals who have contributed to the growth of the nautical sector. The event, which took place at the Moll Vell exhibition centre, was attended by the Director General for Industry and Industrial Estates, Alfons Gómez; the Manager of the Balearic Islands Regional Development Agency (ADRBalears), Silvia Delgado; and the Director General of ANEN, Jordi Carrasco; as well as other business leaders from the sector.
The Palma International Boat Show, organised by the Regional Ministry of Business, the Self-Employed and Energy, through ADRBalears and BYBA, is open to visitors at Moll Vell until 2 May.
